Google Business Profile suspension and reinstatement
What to do when a Google Business Profile is suspended: correct eligibility and representation first, prepare matching evidence, appeal once, and avoid actions that make recovery harder.

A Google Business Profile suspension feels like a marketing emergency because the visible result disappears while the business itself has not changed. The worst response is to start making frantic edits, create a replacement listing and submit several appeals with different stories.
Reinstatement is an eligibility and evidence process. Fix the representation first. Then make one clean case that the real business matches the corrected profile.
Our first-hand lesson
Most AI Labs operates from a home office and serves clients across Metro Vancouver. Customers do not visit a public storefront. During our own correction work, we removed the private registered address from public site claims, stopped describing the business as a customer-facing location and represented it as a service-area business. At the time this article was drafted, the profile's reinstatement was still an active matter, so this is not a victory story and we will not invent a turnaround time.
The useful lesson came before the decision: the website, structured data, legal mailing address and Business Profile must describe the same real-world arrangement without pretending that a private address is a staffed office. Google's rules say a service-area business without a storefront should hide its address. Google's service-area guidance
First, identify what was suspended
Google can restrict a profile, an account or particular content. The appeal route depends on the action. Open the official appeals tool while signed into the account that owns the profile and read the reason and linked policy shown there. Google suspension and appeal guide
Do not assume the cause from an SEO forum. Check:
- profile status;
- owning Google account status;
- email notices;
- the policy linked in the appeals tool;
- recent edits to name, address, category, phone, website or ownership;
- whether a third-party manager changed anything.
Correct the profile before appealing
Google's core rule is real-world representation. The business name should match how the company is consistently known on signage, the website, stationery and branding. Extra service or city keywords in the name are not permitted and can result in suspension. Google's representation guidelines
Check these areas:
Name
Use the real business name. Put services, city, hours and descriptors in their proper fields, not in the name.
Address and service area
A displayed address should be a real customer-facing location with the required staffing and permanent signage. A service-area business that travels to customers and does not receive them at its base should hide the address and list the service area. Virtual offices and borrowed addresses do not become eligible because mail can arrive there.
Category
Choose the most specific category that describes the core business. Do not add unrelated categories to appear for more searches.
Website and phone
Use a phone number and website representing the specific business. Make sure the public site does not contradict the profile's name, service model or location.
Duplicate profiles
Do not create a second profile to escape the suspension. Google explicitly says not to create a new profile for the same business while an appeal is under review. Google suspension guide
Prepare the evidence before opening the form
Google says the optional evidence form must be submitted within 60 minutes after it is opened. Gather documents first.
Google lists useful evidence such as:
- official business registration;
- business licence;
- tax certificates;
- electricity, phone, water or internet utility bills.
The business name and address on submitted documents should match the profile being appealed. If the business is a service-area operator hiding its residential address, the underlying verified address still needs to be real and consistently documented even though customers do not see it.
Also prepare a short factual explanation:
- what the business does;
- how and where it serves customers;
- what was inaccurate or potentially confusing;
- what was corrected;
- which attached documents prove eligibility.
Do not write a legal brief. Make it easy for a reviewer to connect the profile, business and evidence.
Submit once, then preserve the record
Take screenshots of the corrected profile, the appeal reason, uploaded files and confirmation. Record the date, account, profile ID and exact explanation submitted.
Google advises against multiple appeals for the same issue before a decision. The tool lets owners track status. If an initial reinstatement request is denied, Google may offer an additional review route. Follow the current tool rather than old forum instructions because interfaces and policies change. What not to do
- Do not create a duplicate listing.
- Do not add keywords to the name to recover rankings.
- Do not switch to a virtual office or mailbox.
- Do not display a home address if customers cannot visit.
- Do not upload altered or mismatched documents.
- Do not invite several agencies to edit the profile at once.
- Do not pay somebody claiming to be Google for reinstatement. Google says it does not charge to verify, maintain or reinstate a profile. Google profile security guidance
- Do not promise the business a recovery date Google has not provided.
After reinstatement
Treat recovery as a controlled launch:
- verify name, category, phone, website, hours and service area;
- confirm the address is hidden where required;
- remove managers who no longer need access;
- turn on two-step verification;
- export or record baseline performance;
- watch for unauthorized edits;
- resume legitimate review requests without incentives;
- keep business documents current.
Google's performance report can show profile searches, unique views and actions such as calls and website clicks. Use it to establish the post-reinstatement baseline, but remember that clicks on the call button are not the same as completed or qualified calls. Business Profile performance guide
A suspension is not an SEO experiment
The Business Profile is a representation of a real organization, not a landing page where every field should be optimized to its limit. The safe long-term strategy is boring: one eligible profile, accurate information, real customer evidence and owner-controlled access.
Source check
The appeal sequence, 60-minute evidence window, acceptable evidence examples, duplicate-profile warning and representation rules were checked against current Google Business Profile documentation on August 22, 2026. The Most AI Labs note is limited to facts documented in the site repository as of that date. No unverified reinstatement result or recovery time is claimed.

Local SEO vs SEO: what changed, and why rankings slip
HubSpot lost about 81% of its blog traffic. Chegg's revenue fell 24% and it sued Google. Forbes Advisor had whole sections deindexed. None of them broke a rule they knew about. Here is what actually changed in search between 2023 and 2026, why the map box and the blue links fail for completely different reasons, and what it all means for a business in Vancouver.
